| Sites & Site View By Matthew Legare and Phil GarrettHowdy - Matthew Legare, Senior Technical Support Specialist and Workbench Guy for NetObjects here... over the coming weeks I'll be sharing some tips, tricks and other cool stuff you can do with NetObjects Fusion with you through eFuse.com. I've been mucking about with web sites since 1996, and came
onboard at NetObjects in '97. Since then, I've been helping to manage the "Web Design" and "Actions" newsgroups, answering phones, and assembling the NetObjects Workbench site. My favorite movie of all time is still "The Sting", although "Buckaroo Banzai" and "Pulp Fiction"
are strong second-and-third-place runners. :) If you like what you see here, and are interested in checking out more stuff on Fusion, check out the Workbench
(an "officially unofficial" NetObjects Fusion tip site). Tips: Here's the most important advice I can give you: Save often! Even though NetObjects Fusion saves your file automatically (each time you change pages), it's still a good idea to save regularly by yourself by choosing File/Save, or pressing Ctrl-S. To make sure NetObjects Fusion is saving automatically, choose Edit/Preferences and make sure there's a check next to Auto Save.
Then, if your computer has a problem or if there's a power
failure, your work is protected (up to that last save). Keep backups You also can set Fusion to keep up to 20 backup files if you have enough disk space. The more backups you create, the safer you are. To tell NetObjects Fusion how many backups you want to save, choose Edit/Preferences, then click on the Backup tab.
Always select Automatic Backup. It's recommended that you keep at least two backups, and always compact the database upon exit.
Select entire sections You can select entire sections in Site view by holding down the Shift key, then clicking on the top-most page in the
section. Once selected, you can:
- Change the MasterBorders for all pages in the section at once.
- Change the color of all of the page icons.
- Change the publish status (Done/Not Done, Publish/Don't Publish) of the pages.
Go To My site has a LOT of pages and I want to be able to jump to pages quickly in Site view. How can I do this?
In all views in NetObjects Fusion, including Site view, there is a feature called Go To. - To invoke Go To, select it from Go on the pull-down menu bar or press Ctrl+G.
- You can then type in some text to search for pages quickly using the following search parameters: Begins With, Contains, and Ends With.
- Type in some text in the name of the page you want to
go to, and click OK: Fusion will come back with search results in a Select window.
- Double click the appropriate page, or select the page and click OK. This will take you to Page view of the page you selected. You also can use this to find what page a certain graphic is on—just use Go To and enter the filename of the graphic.
Page properties & outline view I would like to be able to see the properties (Page Type,
Status, Publish Status, Children) of my pages at a glance. How can I do this? In NetObjects Fusion, you have two ways of viewing the site in Site view: Structure and Outline. The default view is Structure. However, if you: - Click the Outline tab to use the Outline view, the screen will split. The left window contains a sort of traditional Explorer-like view of the site structure. The right window contains a list of the various properties of the
page selected in the left window: Child Name, Page Type, Status, Publish, and Comments.
