Presenting the designs In all, I created four
site designs, one theme page for each, and posted them on my ISP's server for review. Once there was a clear winner, I would create the rest of the pages and finish the site. I never did find out where Chris is located,
but I'm fairly certain he is not in my neck of the woods, so presenting my makeover designs in person was not an option. To present the designs to Chris, his counselors and his site visitors, I created a menu page in
Fusion that linked to each of the four site prototypes. I included a voting page with a form so the visitors could submit their vote for their favorite design. After all, I am too far removed, age wise, to objectively
tell what is going to appeal to today's teenager. To remain impartial, the forms were sent to Chris. Here are the four presented theme designs.
Design 1 This was the design with the riot of Webdings symbols behind the text in the masthead. The menu buttons
are simple auto-generated buttons. Notice the repeating background pattern. Life, you know, is not a contest to see how plain and boring we can be, is it?
Design 2 This was the simpler of the two orange background sites so far as the background was concerned.
Each symbol for the six sections has an animation for the rollover portion. You can see all five folders here for the Archive symbol animation. When the mouse passes over this
button, the folders shuffle back and forth, then return to their static state when the mouse moves off the button.
Design 3 Here's the subdued, high tech design. You can see the rollover effect for the dating symbol. Also notice the subtle appearance of the button symbols in the background
pattern. This adds a extra layer of texture to the page. The text inside the three section title bars is animated. The text remains the same but the fills change.
Design 4 This was a last minute design and one of which I was rather pleased. The title aid4teens employs a cutout
effect that appears to be cut out of the four-color halftone dot shape. All the circular buttons are animated and change to a different pattern at different speeds so no two buttons are
pulsing at the same time. At least I don't think they are. And if they are, I'm sure one of you eagle-eyed readers will let me know. |
