Design 4

I used a light gray background for Design 4 . On the inside pages, I used an embossed version of the text (shown above) with the page title (normally the highlighted button) added as an image file. Once again, I opted to eliminate the auto-generated buttons and used picture rollover buttons instead.

In case you're wondering, I create all the images for the picture rollover buttons in XARA , my Windows-based, vector design application. (Any application that can create GIF or JPEG images will work  as well). Then the images are exported as GIF files into my current NetObjects Assets folder, from which they are used to create the picture rollover buttons. It would be nice if the ability to add text effects, such this embossed text, could be created within NetObjects Fusion, and perhaps in a future version they will.

A smaller version of the embossed banner appears on each page instead of the auto-generated banner. A different debossed text header appears to identify each page.

As I mentioned, I replaced the auto-generated buttons with picture rollover images. The text for the initial image and mouse out images is gray. The mouse over image has embossed text. The Picture Rollover button for each current page (the highlighted page) is replaced with a single, red embossed text image. As with the previous design, separate Master Borders were created for each page to allow the substitution of the highlighted version of the button. Having the rather plain-looking buttons raise up as the mouse passes over adds a bit of surprise and magic to the page.

Design 5

I created a stark gray-on-gray page. The background tiling image is 28 pixels tall by 1,000 pixels wide. The left side is 190 pixels wide and solid gray, creating a wide gray panel that extends all the way down the left side of the page. Over this gray panel, the buttons and embossed logo image are placed. The auto-generated buttons are simple, raised and recessed rectangles. The remaining portion of the wide tiling image is a gray-on-gray basket weave pattern that provides a textured background for the text and images. Another photo-montage provides a dramatic spotlight of color.

Here is a portion of the background tiling image. The height is tall enough for two rows of the basket weave pattern, which extends to the end of the 1,000 pixels width. By making the tile this wide, the likelihood of the solid gray panel repeating is reduced. Because the image is simple, and uses only three shades of gray, the file size for the tile is small causing it to load quickly.

The simple, rigid, structured layout along with the gray embossed logo and plain rectangular buttons create a Bauhaus-like effect.
