Style View - What is it?
"Would you like a wardrobe of only hats?"Can you imagine having to paint the world with only one color? How about building a castle out of two bricks? Or, designing a
shoe that is one size fits all? The limitations are endless. A coloring book just isn't a coloring book without all of the crayons. And a Web site isn't a Web site if it doesn't have
Style. The concept of Style is having something visually pleasing but, at the same time, something that remains consistent. A Web site that changes the text, banners and
navigation bars on each page is just a mess. Variety may be the spice of life, but you only put one kind of dressing on your salad. The key is to have a wide selection of dressings.
With Style view, you can create a look and feel for your entire site. NetObjects Fusion comes with over 200 professionally designed SiteStyles. A SiteStyle is a collection of graphic
elements and color schemes used to give your pages a unique, yet consistent theme. SiteStyles can be edited, or you can create new SiteStyles using your own graphics and creative imagination. Okay, let's take a look at Style view. To get there, click on the Style button located on the control bar. When you do that
(click on the Style button), NetObjects Fusion will then open into Style view and you will see something along the lines of the image below.
There are basically 9 elements that make up a SiteStyle, they are described as follows: 1. Banner
The Banner is the large graphic at the top of your page that usually contains the page name.
2. Primary Button This is the graphic that will be used for the image on your navigation bars (see Page View
). There are four button sets as seen below:
-Regular -Highlighted
-Regular Rollover -Highlighted Rollover Each SiteStyle includes a Primary navigation bar and a Secondary navigation bar. This will give you two button styles
to choose from. You can set the navigation bars in your site to display either style. For example, parent pages can display the primary button set, while child pages display the secondary set.
3. Secondary Button This is a second set of images for your navigation bar buttons. There are four button sets as seen below:
-Regular -Highlighted -Regular Rollover -Highlighted Rollover 4. Data List Icon
These are bullets next to items when you use a data object to create a data list.
5. Normal Text Color The Color of normal text on each page. 6. Regular Link Color The Color of text links (prior to being clicked) that lead to other pages or anchors. 7. Visited Link Color
The Color of text links that a visitor has clicked on.
8. Background
This is your page background. It can either be a solid color or an image that you select. 9. Line Picture This is the image drawn with the SiteStyle line tool.
You can modify all of the SiteStyle elements (see Editing the SiteStyle
) in Style view. But first, let's learn how we can apply a particular style to our site. Applying a SiteStyle
When you apply a SiteStyle from Style view, NetObjects Fusion automatically applies style elements to your entire site. This means that navigation banners and buttons will be
replaced with the images and text you specified in Style view. Not only will it replace the appropriate graphics, Fusion will also maintain all of the relevant links. And this is how you do it: 1.
First, browse through the list on the left of the Site view page to find the SiteStyle you like. Each time you make a selection, the elements of that Style will appear to the right. 2.
Next, click the Set Style button seen below or choose Set Style from the Style menu.
NetObjects Fusion will then apply the selected style to your site. This may take a while depending on the number of pages in your site. When it's finished, a window will appear to inform
you that the style was applied. 3. Click OK to accept the changes. 4. Now go to Page view and look at the new SiteStyle. If you don't like it - just repeat the process.
Now let's learn a bit about editing the SiteStyles.
